Monthly Reading List: January 2010

This is a feature I tried to start on an old blog of mine. I started it at a time when I was not getting any reading accomplished consistently; thus, it did not work very well. One of my goals for this year however was to complete at least one book per month. I set my standard lower than usual this year since The Diplomat will be making an entrance into the world half way through the year. I get the distinct feeling that I will have less time to read after that point. Sadly, I still just met my goal this past month.

Without further ado...

Reading List for January 2010

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak- This novel takes place in Germany during WWII, and follows the life of a German girl living with a foster family. Interestingly enough, the story is narrated by Death. This adds a somewhat sinister twist to this sad but beautifully crafted tale. I very much enjoyed the focus the book puts on the importance and power of the written word, especially since the book is set in Hitler's Germany. I don't want to give anything more away about this story, but I highly recommend reading it.

Currently Reading:

The Lightening Thief
by Rick Riordan
Super Reading Secrets
by Howard Stephen Berg
Photoreading
by Paul R. Scheele
How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren

What have you read this month? Any recommendations?

  1. I'm reading "Gang Leader for a Day" by Sudhir Vankatesh. I like it so far (70 pages in), it gives me a little bit of insight into my student's lives.

  2. I'm currently reading Magic for Marigold by L.M. Montgomery (with the kids), Parenting Your Internationally Adopted Child by Patty Cogen, Understanding Exposure (Photography book) by Brian Peterson, and Tuesdays with Maurie by Mitch Albom.

I have How to Read a Book sitting on my shelf, but haven't read it yet. You'll have to let me know what you think of it.

    Blessings!
